Document checklist for importing fruit and vegetables from Egypt
Invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate and bill of lading: what you need to clear your shipment smoothly.
Most port delays are caused by a missing document or mismatched details. Here is the list of core documents that travel with every shipment of fresh Egyptian fruit and vegetables.
Core documents
- Commercial invoice: seller and buyer details, product, quantity, price and delivery terms.
- Packing list: number of cartons or bags, net and gross weight, and size breakdown.
- Certificate of origin: proves Egyptian origin and may qualify you for reduced duties under trade agreements such as the EU-Egypt Association Agreement and the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.
- Phytosanitary certificate: issued by Egypt's agricultural quarantine authority after inspecting the shipment.
- Bill of lading: for sea freight, or an air waybill for air shipments.
Documents your market may ask for
- Quality and food safety certificates such as GLOBALG.A.P.
- A pesticide residue analysis report.
- Temperature records for shipments that need cold treatment.
Tips for faster clearance
- Review draft documents before the container sails, not after it arrives.
- Make sure product name, quantity and weight match across every document.
- Tell your supplier early about any special requirements in your country.
We send our clients draft documents for review before shipping, then the final copies as soon as they are issued.
